Troop Outing

At Troop 418, our outings are the highlight of the scouting experience, offering scouts the chance to explore the outdoors, build new skills, and create lasting memories. From camping trips and hiking adventures to service projects and outdoor skill challenges, our outings are designed to inspire teamwork, leadership, and a love for the wilderness. Each outing is carefully planned to provide a safe and fun environment where scouts can challenge themselves, learn from nature, and bond with their fellow troop members.

Troop 418 recently joined forces with Troop 528 for an unforgettable campout on Angel Island, held from April 12–13, 2025. In true Scouting spirit, both troops collaborated to plan the weekend’s activities, fostering teamwork, leadership, and lasting memories.
The journey to Angel Island itself showcased the creativity and independence of each troop. Troop 418 took a scenic ferry ride from Tiburon before backpacking across the island, immersing themselves in its natural beauty. Meanwhile, Troop 528 opted for a more adventurous approach—biking to Caltrain and ferrying in from San Francisco. Though our paths differed, we were united by a shared goal: adventure and growth.
The highlight of the weekend was our sunset night hike. Scouts cooked dinner on portable stoves at a viewpoint offering a breathtaking 180-degree view of the Bay Area. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Golden Gate Bridge gleamed, city lights flickered to life, and a full moon rose over the bay. It was a moment of calm, wonder, and connection—one that no photo could truly capture.
This joint campout reminded us of what Scouting is all about: challenge, camaraderie, and unforgettable experiences in the great outdoors.

We held our March campout at Mt. Madonna from March 22 to 23. During our campout, we focused on first aid and emergency preparedness while enjoying the forest’s fresh air, free from internet distractions. We practiced CPR and AED techniques with ample equipment and time, reviewed first aid skills through fun scenario-based drills, and discussed our troop’s emergency response plan. A two-mile hike to the historic Miller Estate added a touch of exploration, and we also practiced water purification techniques, making the trip both educational and memorable.

Feb. 2025 Snow Camp change & 10-mile hike

Due to safety concerns and insufficient preparation, we made the difficult decision to cancel our snow camp. However, on February 16, 2025, we quickly adapted by organizing a 10-mile hike instead, giving Scouts an opportunity to work toward their Hiking Merit Badge requirements. This hike not only provided a great physical challenge but also reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of unexpected changes.

Jan. 2025 Del Valle Regional Park

Our January campout took place on January 25-26 at Del Valle Regional Park, emphasizing teamwork, skill-building, and scouting traditions. A key highlight was constructing a flagpole for our flag-raising ceremony. To honor President Carter, we flew the flag at half-staff, demonstrating respect and proper flag etiquette. Scouts also practiced flag-folding and handling procedures, reinforcing the importance of upholding national traditions.
Throughout the campout, scouts applied the camping skills they had learned during our January troop meeting. We worked on fire-building, tent setup, and basic outdoor cooking techniques. Junior scouts also had the opportunity to complete several fundamental rank requirements, helping them progress toward their next advancement.
Despite the cold weather, scouts showed resilience and teamwork, making the trip a successful and memorable experience. We wrapped up the campout with a reflection on what we learned and discussed ways to improve for future outings.

Dec. 2024 ILST

On December 22, Troop 418 hosted an Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) training. During the session, Scouts participated in team-building activities, engaged in meaningful discussions, and reflected on their roles and responsibilities within the troop. Together, they defined goals and set clear expectations for the future, fostering a stronger sense of leadership and teamwork within the group.
Nov. 2024 Holiday Gathering

Over Thanksgiving break, our Scouts hosted a backyard BBQ, preparing foil-pack meals filled with healthy vegetables. They proudly served their families, celebrating teamwork, gratitude, and the joy of sharing a wholesome meal together.
Oct. 2024 Half Moon Bay

On October 13 2014, Troop 418 had an amazing outing at Half Moon Bay! We took on a 10-mile hike along the beautiful coastal trail, surrounded by stunning ocean views, towering cliffs, and the refreshing sea breeze. But our outing wasn’t just about the hike—we also gave back to the environment by doing a coastal cleanup along the way.
Sept. 2024 Zipline Adventure

On September 14, 2024, Troop 418 took on an exciting zipline adventure at Mt. Hermon, where many of us experienced ziplining for the first time. The rush of soaring through the trees made it an unforgettable experience! After the adventure, we shared a delicious Japanese lunch together. We're already excited about planning our next zipline trip!
Aug. 2024 Mt. Tamalpais Hiking Campout

We camped at Mt. Tamalpais from August 24-25, 2024, hiking over 10 miles and enjoying the cool breeze amid the summer heat. During the trip, we also held a “Leave No Trace” training session, where scouts learned the 7 principles through a fun hand-sign demonstration, reinforcing our commitment to protecting the environment.

June 2024 Family Camp
We held our first family camp at Anthony Chabot Regional Park on June 8-9, 2024—a special place where three of our founders began their scouting journey in August 2015. This park symbolizes the beginning of our scouting commitment and reminds us of our roots as we look forward to the future.
During the campout, we joined the park ranger’s campfire program to learn about the local animals and plants. We cooked delicious meals together, hiked along the lake, and shared tips on poison oak first aid, making the experience both educational and memorable.
